Machel Waikenda was sworn in as the County Executive Committee Member for Youth Affairs, Sports and Communication on 6th January 2014.
Born in 1981, he is currently pursuing his PHD in Business Administration Strategic Management at the United States International University. He holds a Masters in Business Administration Strategic Management from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida.
He has worked as a First Officer Pilot with Kenya Airways and is a founder member of Blackstar Entertainment.
He joined The National Alliance in April 2012 was the Chief Coordinator for the 2012 By-Elections in Kangema, Ndhiwa and Kajiado North. He was appointed the acting Executive Director of the Party and Director of Communications and the Secretary of Arts and Entertainment where he led the media and communications of the party.
After success of the Party in the presidential and general elections in March 2013, he was appointed as a member of the National Olympics Committee Youth Commission. He has also served as a member of the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) Presidential Taskforce on the improvement of Kenya’s governance indices. He is also a Board Member of the World Youth Parliament.
As a youth advocate, he has published various articles on how to tackle youth unemployment, abstinence on HIV/Aids, Drugs, Alcohol and Substance Abuse and engagement in crime, how to access government procurement for youth, how to access government funding through the various funds including the Kiambu Biashara Fund and the importance of youth in politics and governance.
During his tenure as the County Executive Member of Youth Affairs, Sports and Communication, he has promoted talent in youth through the introduction of ‘Kiambu Iko Talent Competitions’ where youth with creative and performing arts talents compete and are rewarded. He has promoted sports through introducing a football tournament dabbed ‘Champions Cup’ where teams compete from the ward level to be crowned the County Champions and are awarded Cash Prizes. The County All Stars team has, for the first time, participated in the Football Kenya Federation League. Under his leadership, various sports in the county have been promoted including Rowing and Canoeing, Volleyball, Cricket, Matial Arts, Skating, Superbike Racing, Motor boat, Keraita Marathon, Tigoni and Ruiru Golf Tournanments, Migaa Safari Rally, Chess Tournament, Boxing Tournament, Athletics Competiotions and the Staff County Team has emerged National Men Volleyball Champions and represented the Country in East Africa Competitions.
His passion to transform the lives of youth has ensured communications in the county has been improved. He is a vocal point of youth communication by engaging them on social media communications, youth forums and focused group discussions.
Through his guidance the Kiambu Youth, Women and Persons with Disabilities Enterprise Development Fund Act (dubbed Biashara Fund) has been implemented with continuous disbursements done and repayment of almost all beneficiaries. The Fund has enabled Youth, Women and Persons with Disability access affordable funding for their business, whether start-ups or existing entities. He has expanded the knowledge of youth through conducting capacity building trainings on various aspects of agri-business, leadership, business management, youth access to government procurement and talent development.
As the CEC member for youth, he has played a critical role through exceptional leadership to fast-track youth, sporting and communication reforms. Mr. Waikenda is an excellent strategist and visionary. He anticipates the management needs of every organization in which he works and is passionate about youth transformation.
